Thermo Scientific™ Wellcogen™ Neisseria meningitidis B/E. coli K1 Rapid Latex Agglutination Test

Use this rapid latex test in the qualitative detection of antigen from Neisseria meningitidis (meningococcus) group B and Escherichia coli K1 present in body fluids as a consequence of infection.

The latex can also be used for the detection of specific antigen in blood culture supernatants and for the identification of meningococcus group B or E. coli K1 cultures.

The reagent consists of polystyrene latex particles which have been coated with monoclonal antibodies specific to meningococcus group B antigen. These latex particles agglutinate in the presence of sufficient homologous antigen. N.B. The polysaccharide K1 antigen of E. coli shows structural and immunological identity with meningococcus group B antigen, and the reagent does not distinguish between them. Therefore, the reagent may be used to assist in the diagnosis of meningococcal meningitis and neonatal E. coli meningitis.
