Thermo Scientific™ Brilliance™ GBS Agar

Common methods for Group B Streptococci screening use traditional media which require up to 72 hours incubation. Furthermore, additional consumables are required to generate the anaerobic atmosphere for the growth of GBS. Commercially available chromogenic media allow aerobic incubation and make the additional consumables unnecessary; however, most still require pre-enrichment and re-incubation of negatives which prolong the GBS diagnostic process. Not Brilliance GBS Agar.

This selective medium for screening for the presence of group B streptococci carried in vaginal and vaginal-rectal clinical samples allow for presumptive identification and accurate differentiation of GBS with a second chromogen. Non-GBS grow as blue or purple colonies on Brilliance GBS Agar. The formulation also incorporates Inhibigen technology, a targeted inhibiton of enterococci and group D streptococci, ensuring a high level of sensitivity and specificity.
