Improve Lab Productivity with Column Modernization

Have you changed LC column dimensions? Do you have existing columns that are not available anymore, or suppliers who are no longer trading? Are you interested in modernizing existing methods to increase lab productivity?

Reduce Time and Solvent Usage With Newer Column Technology

Major steps have been taken by the US Pharmacopeia to allow labs to improve upon their methods, effectively saving time and money as well as reducing solvent consumption. As of 01 December 2022, the US Pharmacopeia will allow for changes to particle size, length, and inner diameter for both isocratic and gradient methods in order to improve the original methods to new standards (Table 1). The EU Pharmacopoeia and Japanese Pharmacopoeia have followed suit with their newest editions, which have been implemented since 01 January 2023.

Variable
Isocratic Separation
Gradient Separation
Stationary Phase
Mobile Phase pH
Particle Size/Column Length
Injection Volume
Flow Rate
Column Temperature
No change in the physio-chemical characteristics of the stationary phase (same L category)
±0.2 pH units (unless otherwise described)
Per constant L/dp or N: −25% to +50%
Optional/Flexible
An additional change in flow rate of ±50% is permitted
After the flow rate calculation, change in flow rate is not permitted
±10°C
±5°C
